Login and Registration Issues
- Why do I need to register?
- In order to have access to these Forums, beyond the introduction area, you will be required to be registered, with a valid email. Game Masters/Storytellers need to be able to message players and functions beyond reading will also not work if someone is not properly integrated.
- What is COPPA?
- COPPA, or the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998, is a law in the United States requiring websites which can potentially collect information from minors under the age of 13 to have written parental consent or some other method of legal guardian acknowledgment, allowing the collection of personally identifiable information from a minor under the age of 13. This site does not use any information gathered, such as emails, for any purpose other than for the games/RPGs and utilizing these Forums. We will never sell the information or give it away to outside sources.
- Why can't I Register or Sign In?
- It is possible a board administrator has disabled the Forums or just registration to prevent new visitors from signing up or for other members to utilize it due to page maintenance. You may wish to contact the Admins or your GM/ST for access. If you were banned, of course you cannot login. Ensure your name and password are correct and if you need a secret phrase answer, ask for it from the Admins or your GM/ST.
- I registered but cannot login! Password Recovery Assistance
- You can reset your password by visiting the Login page and click I forgot my password. Follow the instructions and you should be able to log in again shortly. If you are prompted to answer a question, ask the Admins for the answer if you do not know.
- Why do I get logged off automatically?
- Click the Remember me box when you login to prevent being logged off/timed out. Use this feature if you are using your own computer/phone/pad and no one else could have access to your account. Do not use this option if you are on someone else’s device or a public computer.
- What does the “Delete cookies” link do?
- Delete cookies deletes the cookies created by phpBB which keep you authenticated and logged into the board. Cookies also provide functions such as read tracking if they have been enabled by a board administrator. If you are having login or logout problems, deleting board cookies may help.
User Preferences and Settings: The User Control Panel
- How do I change my settings?
- Go to your User Control Panel. A link can usually be found by clicking on your username at the top of board pages. Settings that can be changed include things such as 'hiding' your online status on the Forums, setting your correct Timezone, adding a Signature to your post, and displaying an Avatar.
- What is my Rank and how do I change it?
- Your Rank is set by Admins after a Game Master/Storyteller or Gamer Lead informs them. If you need a change to your Rank, inform an Admin and it will done. Ranks are explained in the Introduction Area of the Forums.
- Can I save drafts to be completed later?
- Yes. There is a Save button in topic posting options. This allows you to save drafts to be completed and submitted at a later date. To reload a saved draft, visit the User Control Panel.
Posting Issues
- How do I create a new topic or post a reply?
- You will need to be registered to post topics or to reply to other topics. In a Forum, hit the New Topic button to post the new topic. In a topic area, hit the Reply button for that function.
- How do I edit or delete a post?
- Members can only delete or edit their own posts. Only Moderators and Admins can edit/delete other people's posts. Members cannot delete a post if someone else responded to their post. Otherwise, there are function buttons to edit and delete your own posts in the right corner top of your post.
- How do I create, edit, or delete a Poll?
- You may create polls when creating the first topic or editing the first topic of the Forum by clicking the Poll Creation tab. If you do not see this option, you do not have permissions and will need to ask an Admin for assistance. A user may edit or delete a poll as long as no one has participated/voted on it. After any votes have been cast, only an Admin or Moderator may alter or delete the poll.
- Can I add pics and smilies?
- Absolutely! Use the BBC Code and smilies options that are available toward the right of your topic box.
Formatting and Topic Types
- What is BBC Code?
- BBCode is a special implementation of HTML, offering great formatting control on particular objects in a post. The use of BBCode is granted by the Administrators, but it can also be disabled on a per post basis from the posting form. BBCode itself is similar in style to HTML, but tags are enclosed in square brackets [ and ] rather than parentheses. For more information on BBCode see the guide which can be accessed from the posting page.
- Can I use HTML?
- No. This board only allows BBC Code. With it you can do various functions.
- How can I post images?
- You can use the [img] BBC Code or in some areas, if you have permissions, you can use the 'Attachments' option.
- What are Anouncements and where can you see them?
- An Announcement will detail something of news or change for the Board and/or our members. Announcements from the Admins are posted beneath our rotating coin on the left side of the page. There also may be Announcements on specific forums, set by moderators, STs/GMs. These appear at the top of their respective Forums, regardless of the Topic.
- What are 'Sticky' posts or 'stickies'?
- Sticky topics within the forum appear below announcements and only on the first page. They are often quite important so you should read them whenever possible. As with announcements and global announcements, sticky topic permissions are granted by the board Administrator.
User Levels and Groups
- What are Administrators and how do I get in contact with them?
- Administrators are basically the people who do the maintenance and oversee the care of the Board overall. You may use the "Contact Us" option to message the Administration with any issues you may have concerning the Board or complaints about members or to report criminal activity, etc. You can also 'report' a post and Administrators will deal with it.
- What are Moderators and what do they do?
- Moderators are Game Masters, Storytellers or Gamer Hosts that run and make decisions concerning their own assigned Forums and games/RPGs they host. They are utterly in control of their regions and any decisions concerning their games/RPGs should be taken up with them.
- Why are member groups assigned different colors and why do they exist?
- Members are given roles and connected to certain Forums where they have access to. The colors help Admins and Moderators distinguish what groups the members are connected to, and these colors also reveal who are Admins or Moderators for members.
- What is "The Team" link for?
- It helps members to see those who are Administrators or Moderators and where they belong/what games they run.
Board Extras Functionality
- What are my "Friends and Foes" lists and how do I add or remove members?
- You can use these lists to organise other members of the board. Keep in mind that blocking Moderators of sections that you are connected to may get you removed from their area, games etc. Members added to your friends list will be listed within your User Control Panel for quick access to see their online status and to send them private messages. Subject to template support, posts from these users may also be highlighted. If you add a user to your foes list, any posts they make will be hidden by default. You may add or remove members from you User Control Panel.
- How can I search for a particular Forum or Topic
- Enter a search term in the search box located on the Board index (Main Page), forum or topic page, to the left, under the rotating coin. You may also do an 'Advanced Search' there.
- How do I search for a specific member
- Go to the “Members” page and click the Find a member link.
- How can I find my own posts and topics or attachments
- Your own posts can be retrieved either by clicking the Show your posts link within the User Control Panel or by clicking the Search user's posts link via your own profile page or by clicking the Quick links menu at the top of the board. To search for your topics, use the Advanced search page and fill in the various options appropriately. To find your list of attachments that you have uploaded, go to your User Control Panel and follow the links to the attachments section.
- What attachments are permitted on the Board?
- There are many attachment types permitted. if you have questions regarding this, please message the Administrators by using the Contact Us option.
- What is the difference between 'bookmarking' and 'subscribing'?
- In phpBB 3.0, bookmarking topics worked much like bookmarking in a web browser. You were not alerted when there was an update. As of phpBB 3.1, bookmarking is more like subscribing to a topic. You can be notified when a bookmarked topic is updated. Subscribing, however, will notify you when there is an update to a topic or forum on the board. Notification options for bookmarks and subscriptions can be configured in the User Control Panel, under Board preferences.
- How do I bookmark or subscribe and how do I remove them?
- You can bookmark or subscribe to a specific topic by clicking the appropriate link in the Topic tools menu, conveniently located near the top and bottom of a topic discussion. Replying to a topic with the Notify me when a reply is posted option checked will also subscribe you to the topic. To subscribe to a specific forum, click the Subscribe forum link, at the bottom of page, upon entering the forum. To remove your subscriptions, go to your User Control Panel and follow the links to your subscriptions.
