World Modifiers

Different worlds will have different levels of magic and technology. These innate levels to the worlds will affect the magic and technology related abilities of characters. All worlds have a technology and a magic level; the GM will declare what these levels are when the party arrives on the world or if the world is average.

World Categories

High Magic
Magic is common and frequently encountered on these worlds. The prevalence of magic is such that it actually makes it easier to utilize magic while on the world. Magical actions have a -2 or -3 to their target numbers, and magic users gain 1 extra spell slot while on these worlds. These worlds are where magic users are most likely to be able to learn new spells.

Low Magic
Magic is rare to non-existent in worlds such as these. The dearth of magic is such that it makes it more difficult to use magic while on one of these worlds. Magical actions have a +2 or a +3 to their target numbers, and magic users lose one spell slot while on these worlds. Often these worlds are highly technological in nature.

High Technology
These worlds embraced technology and its development. Characters who are technological savvy or dependent have an easy time finding components for themselves or their equipment here as well as advancing their skills. Due to the abundance of parts and knowledge, building or upgrading technology has a -2 or -3 to their target numbers. These are good worlds for the development of technological skills.

Low Technology
Those who rely on technology will find themselves at a disadvantage on these worlds as they will not be able to find power for electrical devices beyond any batteries they have brought with them. Those who rely on mechanical devices or vehicles will likewise find themselves at a disadvantage due to the lack of available parts and fuels; if they are skilled enough they might be able to forge a needed gear but it would be difficult.

Other possibilities that may combine with the tech/magic level of the world. As a note though, many modifiers can be attached together to the creation of a world, such as a High Magic, Low Tech, Pure World, or a Cold, Polluted, Low Tech, Low Magic world.

Pure Worlds
Worlds that are pure. Life there thrives, and healing is faster and easier. Pure Worlds are often worlds of High Magic, but sometimes they are also more primordial worlds where sentient life has not yet come about to start ruining everything. These worlds are perfect for recovery, but the life forms there are usually quite big, quite voracious, and quite numerous. Jungles filled with predators, carnivorous plants... So yes, living there is pleasant and healing magic would be more efficient, it is also dangerous!

Polluted Worlds
Polluted Worlds are toxic by nature. Life is difficult there, and often quite sparse. Natural healing is slower, and healing magic is hindered. Polluted Worlds are often the results of an Ecumenopolis (A world covered by a giant city), a cataclysm (Megavolcano, asteroid impact, nuclear war, [...] or plain inhospitability of the world, such as a Demonic Realm. These worlds may not have as much life as other worlds, but folks may become sick if remaining there for too long, and these worlds are so devoid of life that it may even be impossible to heal normally!

Temperate Worlds
A world that has a more normal temperature, such as Earth. No characters should have any particular penalties or bonuses into such a world unless otherwise specified.

Hot Worlds
These worlds are hot. Water is scarce, and the temperature is usually beyond what humans can tolerate without a good water supply. Creatures that are vulnerable to Heat in these worlds become sick quickly, and must avoid too much activity or they can fall very gravely ill. However, characters that can resist heat would find themselves comfortable in such a world, and may even be more active.

Cold Worlds
These worlds are cold, usually covered in snow or permanent tundra. Food is scarce, vegetation is weak, and more often then not, such a world would also be a Polluted world due to not having enough plant life to sustain a good oxygen level. These worlds are particularly dangerous to creatures of Heat, that would have trouble maintaining a good body temperature.

Sacred Worlds
Sacred Worlds are worlds that have a very strong Faith. Though, it does not necessarily mean belief in the Divine. A Sacred World can believe a Man to be a God Emperor, or to create a religious-like order that serves to control the population via an authoritarian clergy. Sacred Worlds does not necessarily mean good or evil, it means that Faith controls the world, and creatures that have troubles with Faith, such as many demons or undead, would have issues functioning into such a world.

Profane Worlds
Simply put, Profane Worlds are worlds where faith is non-existent. Profane Worlds are usually very strong on the Technology, but it may not be true. A world where Magic is understood as though a science may be a world of no faith and high magic. In these worlds, characters that rely on prayers or faith may find themselves having troubles, for nobody would answer prayers and pleas for help. Like the sacred world, a Profane world is neither good or evil. It is merely a faithless world that has possibly driven away, killed, or just forsaken their divine figures.
